Cold weather means cold water and Sheep Head city! We found daily limits of the tasty striped bandits along the deeper creeks of Sanibel Island and Matlacha Pass. We mostly used shrimp but crabs worked much better when we could find them. Had a nice surprise right before the strong cold front moved in. We found a nice school a Redfish along the Cape Coral shoreline of the Caloosahatchee River. Found some smaller Snook on the Fort Myers side but they were much more finicky. Cut bait worked best in the late morning hours. Found some smaller Snook sunning up against the mangrove shorelines of Pine Island Sound between Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Sheepshead continue to be the star of the show on cool mornings with good numbers of keeper fish found along the deep creeks and cuts of Matlacha pass. The holidays are always a special treat when we get to see our good friends from the north and spend the day on the water! Snook really fired up with the warmer water temps. We found fish of all sizes along the Cape Coral and Fort Myers shorelines of the Caloosahatchee River. Pilchards were the bait of choice which is common with the bigger linesiders. Still finding decent schools of Black Drum in our area. What a great fight on light tackle those fish can be. Live shrimp was the key for those guys last week. Schools of drum were holding tight along the oyster bars of Sanibel Island and Captiva Island as well as the bars along the east side of Pine Island Sound.
